Right as the counter hits zero, I go in at extremely fast speeds. So fast, that it’s like I am exceeding the speed of light. I could be wrong, but it is the fastest I've ever gone in my life. I keep the sword gripped in my hands, swinging it right into Hadeon. The only problem is that the sword doesn’t seem to cut into him, not even penetrate him.
“What the . . . ?” I say as I turn around to face Hadeon behind me.
He begins to laugh. “You really think a pathetic sword like that can the great Hadeon? You don't even know what I can do.” I look down at my sword, seeing that it is just as clean as it was when I came in here.
“If this thing killed almost everyone else, I am sure I can use it to defeat you,” I say, standing my ground nice and tall. I stare him in the eyes, with a look of concentration.
“You are so cute when you give the look that you are trying.” Hadeon laughs more, but I go back in with my sword. I swing it again at him, only to have it do the same thing again. I look back down at the sword, starting to become unimpressed by this point.
“Stop playing games, let me just kill you with this thing by now.” Hadeon stops laughing, and looks down at me. His face goes from happy to annoyed.
“You think I am doing this?” Hadeon rolls his eyes and stops levitating from the ground. Landing on his feet and walking up to me, he says, “Your little sword—” He touches the tip of the sword with his finger. “—is nothing, but a medieval weapon used in the Battle of Tours.”
I take a moment to comprehend what he said, but shake it off. “This weapon got me this far, though.” I look down at the sword once more, trying to figure out why it isn't working. I think for a few more minutes before deciding to do one more attack. This time, I am not going to slice him with it.
“You know what? If you want to mess around with me, I guess let's do this in a much more interesting battle instead,” I say to him.
“And what do you have in mind?” he asks, but still seems unimpressed.
I hold the sword more tightly in my hands. Then, within a flash of speed, I pick up a huge boulder and throw it straight at him. Hadeon spots this and grabs it with his hand, not long after. He crushes it like it’s a can. I stare at him for the longest time, watching him start to get really annoyed with me.
“You really want to go there? I can snap my fingers and make you disappear. I don't suppose you would want that to happen. Would you?” I don’t know what else to say or do. This guy is too powerful, if the sword couldn't work. Then what could make anybody think I could defeat him?
I stand there, thinking of whatever else I can do to harm him. “All right, fine. I have one last attempt this time. I hope to god it will work,” I say to myself, keeping the sword even more tightly gripped in my hands.
Within another flash of speed, I appear behind Hadeon. Instead of using my sword, I boil as much energy as possible into my hands and arm, jumping straight into his hand, getting ready to punch him with the energy. However, right as I am about to hit him, I find myself in his hand, failing to have hit him.
“Okay, you know what. This isn't working, I am just going to go ahead and snap you away.” Right before Hadeon could snap his finger, I stop him.
“Wait! No! Okay, you won.” I take a few deep breaths. “You won,” I say again so he can hear me.
“Finally . . . You wasted a bunch of my time.” Not long after, I get sent back to the main room where you would teleport into Battleworld. I begin my way out of the room, looking around at everybody else. They all seem to be disappointed and sad.
Although, I start to think about the unicorn. The one who told me to do this. I knew that he was watching too many murder movies. At the same time, though, those robed creatures did admit to them destroying planets. However, the unicorn really thought that the sword could destroy Hadeon? I couldn't even get a scratch out of him.
I decide to head to the medical room, seeing the unicorn alone in the hospital bed. I walk up to him, but he seems to be more disappointed than I am. “Listen, I tried your method and—”
“I told you to defeat him. Why didn't you?” The unicorn seems to be more demanding and serious.
“I tried! This thing is either broken, or you are completely insane.”
The unicorn sits up and looks at me, but with a really annoyed appearance. “I know what that sword can do, so don't you fucking tell me it's broken. We depended on you, and you ruined the chance to save us and yourself. Now everyone here will continue to be in fear. With you being destroyed along with everyone else.”
I can’t speak. He sounds extremely mad at what I did. I can’t blame him; he didn't know what was really happening out there. “I tried to hit him, but the only thing I saw was him somehow being incapable of getting damaged.”
“I don't want to hear it, just an excuse of how horrible of a person you are. The only thing I saw was him dodging your attacks,” the unicorn demands.
“Wait, what?” I ask.
“Look, you idiot!” The unicorn uses his magic to flip backward on the television hanging on the wall. Going back to the moments when I used my sword to swing it at him, there it is, the unicorn is right. He is dodging, shaping his body to go around the sword's tip. This seems to have happened twice, making me look like an idiot rather than telling the truth.
I don't say anything; I just stare at the television screen. “I . . . I can do another rematch.”
“No! There is no second try. Once you call a rematch, that's it. It's over!” he cries. “I am sorry, man, but your best bet is to give up the sword and say goodbye to your loved ones.” The unicorn switches the channel on the TV and goes back to lying down on the bed. He turns his body away, not facing me. Not long after, I begin to hear sniffles. A sign that he is crying.
“I . . . I am sor—” He interrupts me.
“Just go. I want to be alone.” His ears flop back, tail moving sadly close to him.
I stare down at him before walking out of the medical room. I soon meet up with Hank and Hoy with one of the robed creatures next to them. “Floyd, we were just looking for you. It seems as though you have lost your bet.” The robed creature looks over to Hank and Hoy beside him.
Hank sighs sadly. “Time to go home, my buddy. Hand the sword over to the robed creature so we can get this over with.” I look down at my sword in my hands for a minute before slowly handing it over to the robed creature. The robed entity used its magic to grab the sword out of my hands.
The robed creature stares into my eyes, despite it not having any facial features. “Follow me, Floyd. Let's get you to the evacuation pod so you can head home. I'd suggest when you return, you hold your loved ones very closely.” I nod, beginning to follow him.
The robed creature looks over to Hank and Hoy. Who look into my eyes with guilt and sorrow. “I’m sorry it didn’t go as planned in there bud.”
Hoy speaks shortly after Hank, “You did your best out there.” Hank and Hoy gave me a gentle hug as a reward for my efforts.
Hank and Hoy return the looks at the robed creature, before nodding to dismiss themselves. The robed creature looked at me again, “Now follow me, let's get you ready to leave.”
I begin to follow him, entering into a hallway that has a bunch of escape pods lined up. The creature goes over to a panel and starts up the pod before I walk into it eventually. I sit down along the chair, taking a deep sigh of relief. “I'll set the coordinates down." The robed creature used its magic to type away on the keypad. Then, slowly levitated in front of the pods door.
I soon hear the voice of the robed creature saying, “See you, my good pal. Nice playing with us.” The pod closes its door before eventually getting shot into space. I make sure that I keep the belt on tightly around my waist, seeing the pod get shot out. The spaceship behind the pod is huge. I’ve never seen anything the size of it.
Of course, it is going to be the last sight I'll ever see, considering that he and his planet will be annihilated. I didn't know when, but I know it'll be rather soon. Once I arrive back at the planet, I most likely won't have any time to even alert anybody. So I might as well hurry and get Peter.
It is a long trip, taking several minutes for it to eventually show any proof of it moving. I eventually come to see Earth right in front of the pod and me. It is huge, seeing it in real time. In fact, I never thought to see my own planet outside of the surface of where I live. It is so wonderful to look at it and see it for myself.
Right as I am getting closer to arriving on the planet, I see that the large spaceship that was farther away has moved closer to the planet, showing that it is getting ready to annihilate the planet once and for all. This shows me that I am running out of time from simply coming back home.
The pod is burning up as it enters, but it is protected by shielding and its armory. It is not long until the spaceship arrives close to the ground, but the pod shoots out measures to prevent it from crashing, making the falling speed slower and doing it extra carefully. When it touches down finally, I get out of the pod carefully and slowly.
I feel extremely relieved to see the grassy plains and an empty piece of land around me. I can’t be any happier to be back on my home planet. Although, the happiness disappears when my eyes realize the large spaceship outside the planet. It alerts me that I should start heading back to Peter.
I look around the field of grass, searching for a nearby street. I can’t see anything around me, but I soon spot a path in the distance. I start to head toward the pathway, going as quickly as I can. When I get there, I see a man next to a car up ahead. He is looking out toward the giant spaceship in outer space that is right outside the planet.
I begin to run over to him, yelling toward him to hear me. When he eventually hears my cry, he looks in my direction. “Hey! Can you give me a ride back to the city, please? I'll give you some money for your trouble,” I tell him.
The man has short, dark brown hair, with a beard, and brown eyes. He is wearing a black buttoned up shirt, and light blue jeans.
“But don't you see that?” he asks me. “Or am I just hallucinating?” he wonders, looking back over at the spaceship.
“I see it, yes, but I really need to get back to my friend at college,” I tell him.
He looks back over at me, then nods. “Okay, I can do that. Money isn't necessary, though.” He gets into the driver’s seat, while I get into the passenger seat. He begins to turn the car around, until he can start driving forward and head back to the city that is not far ahead. I relax my head back, taking out my phone but realizing that it is dead.
I look over at him. “Can I borrow your phone really quick? My phone's dead.”
He nods in approval, handing it to me. I take it, and I begin to dial Peter's phone number. “Hey, Peter, it's me, Floyd, calling you on someone else's phone because mine is dead.”
“Floyd? Where the hell have you been?! You just disappeared yesterday.”
“I know, I know. but look, I am heading back, okay? I don't want to talk about what happened but—” Peter interrupts me.
“Floyd, there is this huge spaceship outside the planet. I have no idea what is going on with you, or even what this means, but I’m glad at least you are okay,” he says.
“I know, that's why I am coming back. I should be back in like five or ten minutes, depending how bad the traffic is.” Peter doesn't say anything for a bit.
“Okay, I guess, see you then.” He hangs up, and I do the same, handing the phone back to the person in the driver’s seat. He takes it while I lay my head back in the seat.
The drive is pretty lengthy; it’s like time is going slowly. Soon, we arrive at the college. I see Peter standing outside the front with a bunch of other students. The person stops his car at the side of the street, letting me hop out. I unbuckle and open the door, getting out and thanking the person for taking me. He nods happily before driving off.
Peter comes over to me and looks at me. “Floyd, where the fuck have you been, man? I've been looking all over for you!”
“I was at . . . my mother's,” I lie, Peter breathes a sigh of relief.
“Then why is your phone dead? I've been calling you like crazy.” I look down at my phone for a second.
“Because, I forgot my charger?” I say, trying to cover up the reason I was gone. “I wanted to get some fresh air from college, so I wanted to head to my mom's place for a bit so I could stop seeming like I was crazy.”
Peter stands there staring at me, but eventually nods. “Okay, I guess that's a redeemable excuse. Just glad you didn't just disappear without a trace,” he says. “You feeling okay being back at least?”
“Yeah, I think so. Never felt better,” I admit to him.
“Okay, let's go back to the dorm then,” he says, taking the lead back toward our dorm room.
When we get inside the dorm, Peter looks around the room. “I think I’m going to try and get some sleep. I've had a long day,” I tell Peter, lying down on my bed. He looks over at me and nods.
“Okay. I hope tomorrow you’ll get back to being not so freaky. You've been worrying me for a while.”
I chuckle a little. “I hope so too,” I say to him. “I'll clean up this mess when I wake up.”
He nods. “Okay, because I am not.” He takes one more long look around the room before opening the dorm room. “I’m going to go back outside and see what this spaceship is all about. The others and I are thinking of trying to contact them. Send them a message, and all that. If you want to join, we'll be in the courtyard.” I nod as I watch him head out, eventually closing the door behind him.
Once the room goes quiet as I lie there, I begin to talk to myself. “How the hell am I supposed to warn anybody about an attack?” I look up to the ceiling. “Nobody would believe me that I left earth and fought monsters. That would just make me look insane.”
I shake the thoughts of my mind, closing my eyes. “Oh well, I should just get some sleep for now. I'll think about it tomorrow.” I lie comfortably on my side, keeping my eyes closed. I let my consciousness fade away, letting my body fall asleep as I feel comfortable being back with everybody else once again. Eventually, I arrive in the sleeping world. I let myself rest peacefully.
